Day 11
Our last day in Belize. Morning check out from Log Cab-Inn. No hang-over. We drove around San Ignacio looking for a place that might sell postcards. Lots of places were closed and we later found out they closed for Belizean Labor Day. As far as postcards, we didn't find much, but it was still nice seeing more of the town and it's sites and sounds.
We left San Ignacio and headed for Belize City to eventually catch our mid-afternoon flight back to the U.S. We took the Northern Hwy which was well paved. I drove fairly cautiously because it was the road I flipped my rental last time I came to Belize. A lot of places were closed for Labor Day except of course the Chinese restaurant. Sure, I'll try Belizean Chinese food.
It seemed fairly authentic; at least from what I consider authentic. Menus and signs on the walls had a good amount of Chinese written on them. Food was cheap and tasty. After lunch we made our way to Budget Rental to return the car and walked across to the airport to check-in. Check-in went smooth, but long. We shopped around looking for Marie Sharps Hot Sauce and Belizean One Barrel rum. I didn't realize it, but, our flight was about to board!
I
had
to bring back rum. Someone in our group asked the airline employee at the gate if they can give us some time to buy some rum; he hesitantly agreed. All of us got our rum from a royalty free shop near the gate. While we were paying, someone heard the airline employee announce our names over the loud speaker and said they would unload our luggage from the plane if we didn't show up at the gate. The casual rush to buy rum turned into a mad rush.
All of us rushed to the gate with boxes and bottles in our hands. When we got to the gate, the airline employee helped us pack the rum into their boxes. As we walked outside onto the plane, a security guard pulled Jeremy to the side to inspect and search him. Everything was alright and we made it onto the plane.
We arrived in Los Angeles around 11pm. Jeremy's dad sent us a limo to pick us up. An interesting contrast from the dusty school bus we took in Belize. The driver dropped us off at each of our houses. The next day, I had to work. Back to the daily grind.
See the colors...
