Gili Trawangan, Lombok
Sander and I decided it would be nice to have a break from diving and party a little bit on the small island of Gili Trawangan, just off Lombok island. We took a ferry from Nusa Lembongon to the island. Our initial plan was to party, then head to southern Lombok to try and dive with hammerheads. Our timing was bad, and the chances of finding hammerheads was low. Rather than waste money and time, we decided it wasn't worth it to venture that direction. So, we just made use of the nightlife in Gili Trawangan.
While we were there, Ramadan (Muslim holiday of fasting) just ended so a lot of staff from the resorts left for vacation; which meant bars and resorts were understaffed to host their normal party/disco nights. Only one place, an Irish pub, was open to party. Nightlife was a little less lively than I expected it, but it was still good to eat good food and listen to some live reggae music. During the daytime, we simply relaxed, snorkelled, and toured the island on mountain bikes.
